Follow Kar Lo Yaar Review: Urfi Javed & Sisters Step Into Scripted Reality – It’s Cringe, But You Might Just Binge!

A few years back, Gauahar and Nigaar Khan introduced Indians to the idea of reality television with Khan Sisters.Khan Sisters has KK (Keeping up with the Khans). Now, Prime Video presents Follow Kar Lo Yaar, a scripted reality show with Urfi Javed and her three sisters in it.

Read finally, the show provides a glimpse into Urfi Javed’s life, she works and party, fights with her siblings and mother, she is a modern woman. But does the Follow Kar Lo Yaar show hit the addictive button of other similar shows like Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives or Moving In with Malaika? Let’s break it down.

Follow Kar Lo Yaar Review: Script Analysis

Urfi Javed career conversations with Follow Kar Yaar consist of nine episodes that focus on her professional life, interpersonal issues, and intrapersonal issues. There is more on her escape from Lucknow at 19, pursue a career in entertainment business, and deal with families.

Although each episode seems to be a behind the scenes look at her life, the scripted parts of the show feel very stilted. Unfortunately, the efforts inserted into a comic acting show that Urfi Javed is far from succeeding in this endeavor. However, the true, unsubtle dramatic revelation mostly manifests in the form of confessions, episodes of crying, and candid moments with an audience give the show its emotional foundation, even though perhaps brief and striking ones reflecting her pathologies.

The plot stays simple but non-interrupted. Perhaps, it is really rather ironic that Uorfi’s sisters and mother who as the initial gossip stated were ‘horrible people’ turn out to be more real and have more narratable stories than Urfi Javed with her incessant and confusing storyline. The series looks like an attempt to create a show that will be both a KUWTK and FLBB replica. But it has execution problems, just like turning on a mixer grinder without the lid—soon the spatter is out of control.

Follow Kar Lo Yaar Review: Star Performances

Urfi Javed is the face of the show, but it is her eldest sister Uroosa who stands out. Loving, stable and humble, Uroosa is transformed into the emotional center of the series. She boasts of not having any goal in life to achieve yet she took pride of pulling the family together when they were most needed. She is easily recognizable because of her passive character and her creative presentation of the 阿Q精神 family as nonfunctional.

Another cast member is Urfi’s manager, Sahel who is currently in a relationship with her sister as well. Sahel proves very responsible for handling both, the professional mess created by Urfi and the family problems. His commitment and quiet works make a lot of positive contribution in a disruptive family.

Of all the scenes, I remember one; Urfi buys herself a business class ticket to luck now while sending her two sisters to economy. These responses are the best example of the combination of comedy and what it is like in a family, searching for the right words when someone tells someone else that she is pregnant. One of them, the sisters, thank for the tickets and the other one does not bras to mince her words saying that Urfi was behaving awkward.

Final Thoughts

Kar Lo Yaar follows it and it’s far from perfect; there are lots of randomness, awkwardness, and even forced scriptiness. But it provides the necessary amount of the drama and emotional scenes to ensure that the viewer is following the show devoutly. If you are a fan of reality drama television shows then this probably might find its way on your list of shows to watch.
